THE ARTIST

Sue A. Smalley, dba SaS’y, lives on a small scale farm in the Panhandle of Idaho. The farm features many fruit trees, rotating vegetable plots, chickens, turkeys and of course sheep.

Creating out of what resources are available, using scraps and bits here and there is what influences her. When she married six years ago and moved to a farm with sheep and a barn full of wool she decided to make wool her focus. The whole process from shearing, skirting, washing, carding, felting and dyeing is done at the farm. She is continually experimenting with natural dyes that she can source from plant materials on the property.

Sue is an award winning felter. She was named 2021 Best Of Textile Art at the Corvallis Fall Festival and won Best in Show in 2019 at both the Palouse Empire Fair and the Latah County Fair.
